Luke 22:14-23 tells us about "the Last Supper," which is the first Lord's Supper. His Last Supper is a Passover meal, which tells us His death and resurrection is a new Exodus event. Jesus is instituting a practice that will happen after His death and resurrection. Yet we are told, "Do this in remembrance of me." Thus each Lord's Day (the day of the week He rose from the dead) when we enjoy the Lord's Supper we are remembering His death until He comes. This is just like the Passover meal. Instituted before the death and resurrection of the Exodus, they ate it each year to commemorate the Passover event. They celebrated that the angel of death passed over their homes because of the blood of the lamb. We celebrate that the angel of death spares us because of the blood of the Lamb of God who is Jesus. And we celebrate the Supper to memorialize His death, even though He is risen, until He comes again.
