Matthew 25:1-13 teaches that “be prepared,” the motto of the Boy Scouts, should be the motto of Christians too.  Parables have only one point, and that is the point of this one.  To understand this parable it is helpful to know that the Jewish custom was that the bridegroom would show up at an unexpected time for the bride.  It would be unthinkable in our culture for the bridegroom to show up late to the wedding, but it was normal in theirs.  And their tradition illustrates well our situation as Christians because the church is the bride of Christ, who is our bridegroom.  And our bridegroom will come at a time when we least expect it (represented here in the parable as midnight).  We are only prepared for Christ to come again, if He knows us.
