Isaiah 12 says, “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation” (3).  The Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well hated going to the well before meeting Him.  She went during the heat of the day to avoid the gossips.  It was hard work to draw water from the well.  And it reminded her of her sinful way of life every time she went.  But after meeting Jesus there I would imagine that she returned to draw water with joy because it was the place where she had first drank from the well of salvation.  And when we drink the water Jesus offers, it wells up within us into a spring that gushes out of our mouths and actions.  Indeed, Jesus has saved us and watered us with the water of life and given us the Spirit so that living water might flow up from the deeps of our hearts — that we might become wellsprings of living water.  And so this is the day when those things Isaiah says here come true.  The day when we give thanks because God’s anger turned away that He might comfort us, the day when we can say we will trust in Him and not be afraid because He has become my salvation, the day when we can make His deeds known among the peoples and proclaim that His name is exalted, the day when we can shout and sing for joy for great in our midst is the Holy One of Israel.  May the Lord be praised.  Amen.
