Luke 20:9-19 includes a parable that still catches people today.  Many religious leaders live today as if it were the gospel truth that God is dead.  And many identify with those leaders and live that way themselves.  In the parable, the tenants were the religious authorities of Israel.  And when the man who represents God sent his beloved son to them, they thought it meant that the man was dead and the son was coming to claim the inheritance.  Thus if they killed the son, then the inheritance would be theirs.  The parable is about power and how their authority as tenants will be transferred to the apostles of Jesus.  We will look first at what the parable is saying, then at what Jesus is doing with this parable, and then conclude with some thoughts on how the parable functions for us today.
