Isaiah 1:21-31 gives us Isaiah’s lament over the condition of Jerusalem in the days of Christ and his prophecies of the judgment of Jerusalem and a new Jersualem. This new Jerusalem will be like the one of old — probably refering back to the days of King David, though the story of Melchizedek in Genesis also points to Christ. The sermon title and theme arise from verse 22: “your best wine [has become] mixed with water.” Jerusalem once had the best wine, but now it is watered down so that it has lost its taste. Jesus is the one who turns water into wine. He also laments over Jerusalem, and prophesies her judgment and begins building a new Jerusalem. The new Jerusalem is a restoration of the old one — it has the best wine and is full of rejoicing. We gathered together this day for worship at Mount Zion the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem for a wine tasting — tasting and seeing that the Lord is good — and to rejoice His holy name. Amen.
