Isaiah 2:6-22 shows us the tower of Babel (re-)construction business.  People either belong to this business or they are building blocks in the new Mount Zion that God is constructing.  The new Mount Zion is truly the highest of the mountains.  And still men and women are trying to make their own heights.  Isaiah recounts the various ways that the people of Judah and Jerusalem are laboring in this Babel construction business.  Judah has built chariots to save themselves, they have created wealth to save themselves, they have began worshiping idols made with their own hands and thus they have become religiously and politically like the nations to their east and west.  Our chariots may be cars, our gold and silver may be U.S. Dollars, these things together with our lofty homes and skyscrapers and cathedrals may be our idols, rich and poor alike.  But the height of men shall be made low on the day of the Lord.  The passage tells us about THAT DAY.  It is a day when men and women will hide and wish the mountains would fall on them.  It is a day when the Lord alone is exalted.
