1 Cor 7:25-31 was almost 2000 years ago even though it tells us, “The appointed time has grown very short.” Paul is making a statement about the very nature of time itself, which changed with Jesus ushering in the latter days. And during this time those who marry will have worldly troubles, which Paul as a widower no doubt knows. Whether it is marriage, mourning, rejoicing, buying and enjoying things, or commerce, we live at a time where the old things are passing away and the new things are taking their place and need to live like it. The stuff of this life is temporary and fleeting. The form of this world is passing away. But thanks be to God that we can live in light of eternity.
