Exodus 12:43-13:16 is the last part of the climax of the plagues in Exodus — the last part of the tenth plague. The way this story is told from Exodus 11:1-13:16 is making one big point, but so far I have only sketched around the edges of this one big point. The tenth plague story closes by describing more regulations for future observance of the Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, and the consecration of the firstborn. The crucial element to understanding this plague is that it is the plague of the death of the firstborn. Israel would learn the significance of that event through these services of worship.
