Isaiah 25 meets us where we are — death touches all of us and so we who believe look forward to the final resurrection. The theme of the final resurrection is strategically positioned through these three chapters (24-26). Isaiah 24:1-3 opens with the theme as if the earth were a container and its cover were pealed back and its contents dumped out. Isaiah 26:19-27:1 closes with the them. And in the middle Isaiah 25:6-8 climaxes with the theme. The final resurrection is a great reversal — the great swallower, death itself, will be swallowed. The earth had swallowed up the dead since the first one but now it will no longer hold dead bodies. All will be raised, some unto life and some unto a second death. We can go ahead and begin participating in the final party, the final victory banquet, because Jesus was swallowed but the earth spit Him up. Let us rejoice for this and because He is coming again.
