1 Cor 14:26-33a shows us that there is a need for order in worship. Paul has been saying all along in this essay that we are to keep the law of love in church. So you might say that freedom, a major topic of this essay, requires law and order. We know this to be true from experience in the world and it fits what God has given us in His word. The church services at Corinth, however, were one big mess. Thankfully ours are not. But we should reflect on how our worship services are to be ordered and helpful and why that is the case so that we will be intentional about it. And on this Sunday when we have new hymnals, we can reflect on how these hymnals can make it easier to apply the themes of 1 Corinthians today just as the old ones did when they were new.
