1 Cor 10:14-22 completes the triad of “all things to all people,” ‘some things to some people,’ with ‘nothing to anyone.’ These are the three ways we are to relate to the surrounding culture. The issue is how far can we go in joining other cultures? This is an issue because many cultures include their own religions. Not everyone that lives in that culture practices that religion just as not every Jewish person practices Judaism or Christianity and not everyone with a Christian heritage trusts in Jesus. So we can be all things to all people by joining any culture. But can we join other religions? The answer has something to do with participating in worship with other religions — more specifically it has something to do with the sacraments of the Gentile religions. We live in a time and place where these Gentile religions are growing around us, we need to know how far we can go to reach them for Jesus.
