In Exodus 14:10-18 God says, “Tell the people of Israel to go forward.” The silly saying to remind us how to change our clocks for today “remember to spring forward” can remind us that God wants us to spring forward in our Spiritual walk too. To go forward means to leave some things behind. To go forward means change. To go forward may take us on a path through the desert before we get to the Promised Land. Sometimes we are content to stay right where we are. Sometimes we want to go back to the past — to be a slave in Egypt rather than to serve God in the desert place. But God is calling us to go forward — to spring forward by attending to the means of grace more often and encouraging others to do the same, to spring forward by doing some spring cleaning of the idols of our hearts, to spring forward in our sanctification into the image of Jesus Christ. May we follow Him.
