Luke 1:26-38 shows us that nothing will be impossible with God. Indeed, that Elizabeth was with child demonstrated that nothing is impossible with God. That the virgin Mary was with child shows that nothing is impossible with God. And that Jesus, after His death on the cross, would reign over the house of Jacob and sit on the throne of His father David tells us that nothing is impossible with God and nothing will be impossible with God. It is impossible for us to repent of our sins, it is impossible for us to Spritually understand His word, it is impossible for us to make ends meet and give generously, it is impossible for us to share the good news unto salvation, it is impossible for us to love our neighbors. But all things are possible with God. And so our response should be like Mary and like Jesus, “I am the servant of the Lord, let it be to me according to your word.” The sermon opens with the illustration of Star Wars to show just how superior Jesus is to Anakin, a fictional character who is designed to be similar in some ways to Jesus but takes a far different path than submission to God.
