Selected passages mentioning Isaiah by name demonstrate that the New Testament understands Isaiah to be speaking about John the Baptist and the birth, life, and death and resurrection of Jesus Christ — in other words, Isaiah sees the latter days beginning with the ministry of these two. Jesus understood His ministry as fulfilling various aspects of Isaiah’s vision. And Isaiah is particularly helpful because he sees Israel’s rejection of the Messiah / Christ and that the Messiah will be the hope of the Gentiles. All this is important for us to know as it is the interpretive key to understanding Isaiah’s vision.
