1 Cor 2:3-3:4 includes the second half of the theological foundation Paul has written to address the problem of following personalities, forming parties, and dividing into cliques. But 1 Cor 3:1-4 is the beginning of Paul’s application of this theological foundation to that problem. We see in chapter 2 that what unites us is that the preaching of the cross of Christ is to interpret Spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. But wherever this problem exists it reveals people being unspiritual or people of the flesh. I then use an extended sports metaphor to show that the problem still exists today and call us to unity.
