If you have ever been tricked by someone using the question, “How many animals were on Moses’ ark?” then you should know that their usual answer, “The ark wasn’t Moses, it was Noah” is not entirely true. Why? Exodus 2:3 uses a word that is only found there and in the flood story. In the flood story that word is translated “ark” and in this verse it is translated “basket.” “Basket” is a guess based on the description, but this means that the connection we are meant to make between Moses and Noah is lost in translation. Moses was on an ark. There were no animals on it, but it was an ark. He was on that ark because God had chosen him to lead the people of God out of Egypt.
